Worktree Consolidation

  • Audit date: 2026-03-18 (Asia/Tbilisi)
  • Repository root: /home/standard/dspy_rag_in_repo_docs_and_impl1
  • Working branch during verification: codex/hushwheel-quality-instrumentation-20260318

Scope

This audit captures the repository state immediately before consolidating the full mixed worktree of staged, unstaged, deleted, and untracked changes into a single commit.

The worktree at this point includes changes across:

  • retrieval and DSPy training helpers
  • file-summary and utility surfaces
  • exploratorium generated outputs and publication artifacts
  • hushwheel fixture surfaces and tests
  • audit notes, repository docs, notebook outputs, and GitHub run logs

Executed Commands

Executed successfully in this turn:

  • uv run python -m compileall src tests
  • make verify-surfaces
  • uv run pytest tests/test_cli_and_dspy.py tests/test_dspy_training.py tests/test_file_summaries.py tests/test_exploratorium_translation.py tests/test_utilities.py tests/test_repository_rag_bdd.py tests/test_verification.py tests/test_hushwheel_fixture.py tests/test_hushwheel_program_surface.py
  • uv run repo-rag smoke-test
  • cargo build --manifest-path rust-cli/Cargo.toml
  • uv run pytest tests/test_file_summaries.py
  • env GIT_DIR=/home/standard/dspy_rag_in_repo_docs_and_impl1/.git GIT_WORK_TREE=/home/standard/dspy_rag_in_repo_docs_and_impl1 uv run pytest tests/test_file_summaries.py

Results

  • uv run python -m compileall src tests: passed
  • make verify-surfaces: passed with:
  • checked_notebook_count: 5
  • issue_count: 0
  • targeted pytest consolidation bundle: passed, 65 passed
  • included CLI and DSPy tests
  • included DSPy training tests
  • included file-summary tests
  • included exploratorium translation tests
  • included utility and repository BDD tests
  • included verification tests
  • included hushwheel fixture and hushwheel program-surface tests
  • uv run repo-rag smoke-test: passed with:
  • answer_contains_repository: true
  • mcp_candidate_count: 1
  • manifest_path: artifacts/azure/repo-rag-smoke.json
  • cargo build --manifest-path rust-cli/Cargo.toml: passed
  • uv run pytest tests/test_file_summaries.py: passed, 6 passed
  • hook-simulated tests/test_file_summaries.py run with GIT_DIR and GIT_WORK_TREE set to the repository values: passed, 6 passed

Current Verification Status

Configured and exercised in this turn:

  • compile checks
  • repository surface verification
  • targeted pytest coverage for the modified retrieval, DSPy, file-summary, verification, exploratorium, utility, and hushwheel surfaces
  • repository smoke test
  • Rust wrapper build

Configured but not exercised in this turn:

  • make quality
  • repository-wide coverage aggregation
  • full lint and type-check aggregate outside the targeted suites above
  • post-push GitHub Actions logging for the upcoming consolidation push

Absent or not exercised in this turn:

  • UI or browser tests: none found
  • live Azure endpoint probes: not exercised
  • deployment validation beyond the local smoke test: not exercised

Notes

  • The mixed worktree already contained both staged and unstaged changes before this consolidation turn began.
  • The consolidation commit is intended to freeze the current repository state rather than re-scope or split the pending edits into multiple thematic commits.
  • The first git push attempt failed in the pre-push coverage hook because src/repo_rag_lab/file_summaries.py inherited hook-provided GIT_* environment variables while spawning git ls-files, which broke temporary Git repositories inside tests/test_file_summaries.py. The follow-up fix sanitizes GIT_* in _tracked_paths() and also gives the test helper a clean Git subprocess environment.

Follow-Up Stabilization

Executed successfully after the hook-time publication churn surfaced:

  • uv run pytest tests/test_exploratorium_translation.py tests/test_utilities.py
  • env GIT_DIR=/home/standard/dspy_rag_in_repo_docs_and_impl1/.git GIT_WORK_TREE=/home/standard/dspy_rag_in_repo_docs_and_impl1 uv run pytest tests/test_exploratorium_translation.py tests/test_utilities.py
  • make coverage
  • make files-sync
  • make exploratorium-sync

Follow-Up Results

  • uv run pytest tests/test_exploratorium_translation.py tests/test_utilities.py: passed, 12 passed
  • hook-simulated uv run pytest tests/test_exploratorium_translation.py tests/test_utilities.py with GIT_DIR and GIT_WORK_TREE set to the repository values: passed, 12 passed
  • make coverage: passed, 122 passed, total coverage 87.54%
  • make files-sync: passed and refreshed FILES.md plus FILES.csv for the updated source and test surfaces
  • make exploratorium-sync: passed and refreshed the generated exploratorium manifest and LaTeX include without requiring a timestamp-only rewrite on unchanged inventory

Follow-Up Notes

  • src/repo_rag_lab/exploratorium_translation.py now reuses the previous generated_at value when the manifest payload is unchanged apart from the timestamp. That makes repeated sync runs idempotent for tracked outputs and stops tests/test_utilities.py from dirtying the repository during the pre-push coverage hook.
  • src/repo_rag_lab/exploratorium_translation.py also now sanitizes inherited GIT_* environment variables before spawning git ls-files, matching the earlier file_summaries fix. Without that guard, the pre-push hook forced temporary Git repositories in tests/test_exploratorium_translation.py to resolve tracked paths against the main repository.
  • tests/test_exploratorium_translation.py now verifies both the no-change rerun case and the tracked-inventory-change case inside a temporary Git repository, and it injects repository-level GIT_DIR plus GIT_WORK_TREE values so the regression matches the failing pre-push context.
