Research Narrative Audit

  • Audit date: 2026-03-18 (Asia/Tbilisi)
  • Repository root: /home/standard/dspy_rag_in_repo_docs_and_impl1
  • Verification worktree: /tmp/repo-rag-narrative.8lx2JZ
  • Git HEAD before commit: 828dc53212f7749079b99767b09947c91f3ed773

Scope

This audit covers documentation and agent-contract work for a new overreaching repository narrative:

The goal of this turn was to centralize the project's high-level research story in one maintained document and make that narrative part of the agent-maintenance contract instead of leaving it implicit across scattered docs.

Executed Commands

Executed successfully in this turn:

  • make hooks-install
  • uv run python -m compileall src tests
  • uv run pytest tests/test_utilities.py tests/test_repository_rag_bdd.py
  • uv run repo-rag smoke-test
  • cargo build --manifest-path rust-cli/Cargo.toml
  • make verify-surfaces

Results

  • compile: passed
  • utility pytest surface: passed
  • smoke test: passed
  • Rust wrapper build: passed
  • repository surface verification: passed, issue_count: 0

Documentation Changes

  • Added README.AGENTS.md as the top-level research narrative describing the repository thesis, research questions, workflow arc, evidence surfaces, open tensions, and maintenance contract.
  • Updated AGENTS.md so agents must keep README.AGENTS.md current whenever a turn materially changes workflow stages, DSPy capabilities, notebook responsibilities, verification posture, publication scope, or deployment handoff.
  • Updated README.md so the new narrative is discoverable from the repository map and agent-guidance section.
  • Updated docs/audit/README.md so the audit index points at this note as the latest dated audit entry.

Current Verification Status

Configured and verified in this turn:

  • compile checks through uv run python -m compileall src tests
  • utility-facing pytest coverage through uv run pytest tests/test_utilities.py tests/test_repository_rag_bdd.py
  • repository smoke test through uv run repo-rag smoke-test
  • standalone Rust build through cargo build --manifest-path rust-cli/Cargo.toml
  • repository-surface verification through make verify-surfaces

Still absent or not exercised in this turn:

  • UI or browser tests: none found
  • full make quality: not re-run in this turn because the change was documentation and agent guidance, not Python behavior
  • full notebook batch execution: not re-run in this turn
  • live Azure endpoint or DSPy remote-model calls: not exercised in this turn

Notes

  • The repo already had strong specialized documentation in README.md, README.DSPY.MD, env.md, publication/, docs/audit/, and samples/logs/; this turn adds the missing top-level narrative that explains how those surfaces fit together as one research program.
  • The audit index had drifted behind the actual latest dated note before this change. This turn re-establishes the intended rule that status reporting should anchor to the newest dated audit.
