Hushwheel Program Harness Audit

  • Audit date: 2026-03-18 (Asia/Tbilisi)
  • Repository root: /home/standard/dspy_rag_in_repo_docs_and_impl1
  • Git HEAD during verification: fb58c7cda5001514a8eb93386192077a0a3fcb09

Scope

This audit covers the hushwheel fixture upgrade from a large C corpus into a small maintained program surface:

  • tests/fixtures/hushwheel_lexiconarium/ now has expanded operator documentation, packaging metadata, install and uninstall targets, a manual page, and a fixture-local lint and test harness.
  • the hushwheel C source now supports HUSHWHEEL_NO_MAIN so helper-level unit tests can embed the production implementation without altering the shipped CLI behavior.
  • repo-level pytest coverage now validates the hushwheel project harness and packaging targets in addition to the existing retrieval coverage.

Executed Commands

Executed successfully in this turn:

  • make -C tests/fixtures/hushwheel_lexiconarium check
  • make hooks-install
  • uv run python -m compileall src tests
  • uv run pytest tests/test_utilities.py tests/test_repository_rag_bdd.py
  • uv run pytest tests/test_utilities.py tests/test_repository_rag_bdd.py tests/test_hushwheel_fixture.py tests/test_hushwheel_program_surface.py tests/test_benchmarks_and_notebook_scaffolding.py tests/test_training_samples.py tests/test_population_samples.py
  • uv run pytest tests/test_project_surfaces.py
  • make verify-surfaces
  • uv run repo-rag smoke-test
  • cargo build --manifest-path rust-cli/Cargo.toml
  • make quality

Notable results:

  • make -C tests/fixtures/hushwheel_lexiconarium check: passed, exercising lint, unit, integration, and BDD layers for the fixture-local C program
  • targeted pytest: passed, 33 passed in 19.51s
  • uv run pytest tests/test_project_surfaces.py: passed, 11 passed in 0.14s
  • make verify-surfaces: passed, checked_notebook_count: 5, issue_count: 0
  • uv run repo-rag smoke-test: passed, answer_contains_repository: true, mcp_candidate_count: 1
  • cargo build --manifest-path rust-cli/Cargo.toml: passed
  • make quality: passed, 53 tests with 88.62% total coverage

Current Verification Status

Configured and verified in this turn:

  • Compile, lint, type checking, repository-surface verification, complexity reporting, tests, and coverage: present and passed through make quality
  • Rust build: present and passed through cargo build --manifest-path rust-cli/Cargo.toml
  • Repository smoke test: present and passed through uv run repo-rag smoke-test
  • Dedicated integration tests separate from the repository pytest surface: now present for the hushwheel fixture and verified through make -C tests/fixtures/hushwheel_lexiconarium check
  • Fixture-local BDD and unit tests: present and passed through the same hushwheel check target
  • Packaging verification for the fixture: present and passed through repo-level pytest plus the hushwheel dist, install, and uninstall targets

Still absent or not exercised in this turn:

  • UI or browser tests: none found in the repository configuration
  • Live Azure endpoint validation: not executed in this turn
  • Automated DSPy training compile path: not implemented in the repository today

Notes

  • The hushwheel repo-level packaging test now cleans the fixture in a finally block so repeated make quality runs do not fail on duplicate modules under generated build/dist tar staging.
  • After the last fast-forward in this turn, which only touched publication workflow and project surface files, make verify-surfaces and uv run pytest tests/test_project_surfaces.py were rerun on the new HEAD and still passed.
  • Recent CI evidence for hushwheel-specific work exists in samples/logs/20260317T091641Z-gh-runs-hushwheel-rag-playbook.md; post-push GitHub Actions evidence for this turn still needs to be collected after the next push.
